The Latin Quarter

The Latin Quarter

As a visitor in Aarhus, there are multiple well-known places you can choose to swing by, while you are in town. Likewise, the city offers a wide variety of shopping opportunities that will suit your every need.

We, the crew at SPOT Festival will, however, first and foremost recommend that you explore the city on your own, but in case you need inspiration, we have picked out some suggestions of what might be worth your attention.

The Latin Quarter in Aarhus is worth several hours of strolling through the old cobbled streets, where cafes and odd shops with clothes, music and art lie side by side with well renowned international brands such as B&OMunthe plus Simonsen, and Junk de Luxe. The last mentioned designer store, Junk de Luxe, is situated in the street called Studsgade, right in the heart of the Latin Quarter. The store has been there since the nineties, but it has grown over the years to become the internationally acknowledged brand it is today. We recommend you to visit the store in Aarhus, the only exclusive Junk de Luxe store in the country, but also to check out the new webshop on www.junkdeluxe.com where you can find the coolest fashion outfits to wear at SPOT festival.

Pustervig is the place where Sophies Tøjhus resides. With more than 40 years to its name, a wide selection of everyday clothes, the city´s largest collection of party dresses and exciting creations from Gaultier og Ela & Jacek Cyganek to name a few, Sophies Tøjhus is a sight in its own right.

The clothes shop 2trinop in Badstuegade is among the more original of its kind with an intriguing selection of unique designs made of leather and fabric as well as handmade jewelery and fascinating accessories

For all music lovers, BadstueRock in Badstuegade is a definite must. The music shop was established in 1973 by a British student as an alternative to the big mainstream music stores. He named the shop Dandelion Records but renamed it during the 80′s, where it was given the name BadstueRock. Since the beginning, the shop has specialized in primarily carrying niche music, which it still does to the delight of all who´s musical interest lie beyond hit-lists.

In Badstuegade the cobbled street and the old walls form a nice setting for the shop Designer Zoo. Through the low-ceilinged premises you find your way deep in to the old house, where an immense selection of exiting products from the hands of many interesting Danish designers is on display for sale, including one of the more well-known items, the Bean table (bønnebordet) in multiple colors and sizes.

If your fashion preferences are are of the more well-known kind, several of internationally known Danish brands have established shops in Aarhus. Munthe plus Simonsen has an amazing store on the corner of Borggade and Klostergade, just opposite Samsøe & Samsøe, who also have settled on the outskirts of the Latin Quarter on the corner of Badstuegade and Klostergade.

Regardless of preferences where soundsystems are concerned, the Bang & Olufsen store on the corner of Klostergade and Borggade is a treat and delight to visit. Although we cannot escape the fact, that B&O is an internationally recognized brand where the possibility of delusions of grandeur is eminent, the sales people meet you with a down to earth attitude and a willingness to demonstrate products that make you feel welcome although the products may be out of your reach.
