With Nicolai Elsberg’s deep voice at the front this young Copenhagen group modernise the Danish ballad tradition in a soundscape of sophisticated guitars, dramatic synth, swaying bass lines and dusty drums. Spillemændene made their debut last year with an EP created in fruitful collaboration with Nikolaj Nørlund. The band’s name is a reference to Johannes V. Jensen’s novel The Fall of the King.
