Wafande, Choir of Young Believers and Reptile Youth – all in all 15 new acts for SPOT
Once again SPOT can now unveil a batch of acts, this time ranging from intimate folk via cheerful reggae to jazzy choir improvisations.
First up we have Choir of Young Believers, whose latest album “Rhine Gold” got rave reviews in virtually all Danish media. The first international reviews have been published, and it looks as if the rest of the world is just as enthusiastic. At the time of writing the band is close to signing a deal that will land them a staggering ten gigs at the American festival South By SouthWest (read article in Danish on their current US tour here).
The explosive live wires of Reptile Youth are also coming to SPOT to play dance rock that sets one’s pants on fire (click here to read about the band’s impressive journey since last year’s SPOT and their plans for the future. NB: in Danish). Wafande plays upbeat reggae with Danish lyrics and African inspiration. We are also quite thrilled to present RebekkaMaria & The Hymnboy – a collaborative project between RebekkaMaria Andersson and Hymn From Nineveh mastermind Jonas Petersen, which will draw on both songwriters’ back catalogue in stripped and austere versions. The festival will also feature Hanne Kolstø (Norway), who performs her equilibristic pop songs with the assistance of a loop station. Also from Norway: The Megaphonic Thrift will play their breakneck noise rock, which got excellent reviews in several Danish music media (read an interview in Danish here).
Furthermore, we can now confirm Swedish Daniel Norgren for SPOT. He uses his hands and feet(!) to play his guitar and drums simultaneously in his energetic, modern take on the noble, American Delta blues.
In collaboration with JazzDanmark we are proud to present Søren Dahl Jeppesen Quartet, who play hushed, beautiful and spherical jazz in melodious and Nordic colors, as well as the vocal group IKI, which consists of nine women from all of the Nordic countries, who present completely improvised music pieces on stage – their motto being “Nine voices, no rules!”. Together with World Music Denmark we proudly present Babylove & The Van Dangos. With their roots solidly in the Jamaican music tradition they are going to play ska with detours to rocksteady, blues and doo wop.
SPOT also collaborates with The Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus/Aalborg to present four concerts at the festival: insistent indie folk from NovemberDecember, beautiful, electronic songs from Akat, folksy indie pop from Ladylion and a performance concert with Dying Dyveke. Finally the funk band Orange Extended will also play at SPOT. They won their slot in the line-up in a contest for continuation school bands at the so-called Aftryk Festival last year.
